New TV Program – Sunday 6:30am
Fabric of Family is a TV program that is designed to address family issues from a biblical perspective; it will now be available for viewing in the West TN area on the CBS affiliate at WBBJ TV and might be of interest to readers of the Estes Echo. It is presented in the form of a magazine-style program, integrating several short family-related segments along with a panel discussion led by Barry Gilreath, minister of the Jackson Heights Church of Christ in Florence, AL. The program was originally designed to complement the programming of the Gospel Broadcasting Network (GBN) to address needed family topics; however, in recent years it has also entered other media venues as a stand-alone program.
Fabric of Family was originally under the oversight of the Highland church of Christ in Dalton, Georgia, where Gilreath preached for almost thirteen years. When he accepted the work with the Jackson Heights congregation in Florence, Alabama, the oversight was transferred to the elders at JHCC.
Fabric of Family is entirely a labor of love. Neither the host nor any guests are compensated for time or travel expense. 100% of the financial support received goes towards the actual costs of producing the program and purchasing air time on the networks.
The core of Fabric of Family is the family table discussion. Typically, Gilreath will have two guests to discuss a particular family topic from the Bible’s perspective. Most of these guests are preachers in the Lord’s church. He tries to involve preachers in the viewing areas by enlisting them as guests when possible. Occasionally, Gilreath will interview a guest who is not a preacher, but has a special life experience and perspective in a family-related area.
The overall objective is to supply a comprehensive television program that is biblically-based, visually appealing, and will interest all demographics in a scriptural fashion. Fabric of Family provides a needed venue for today’s families rooted in the Word of God. As more people learn of the broadcast, it grows in popularity and viewership. As financial support increases, new markets will be added to expand coverage. The hope is that our families will be strengthened and brought closer to God through this program.

The 6.2 Ministry has its basis in Galatians 6:2 which says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Implied in the verse are principles of fellowship, accountability, and purpose.
Romans 3:23 provides direction for Christians. Sin is the problem and it must be avoided. Paul, in Galatians 6:2 describes sin as a burden. This is obvious when Galatians 6:1 is considered for a context. The one commonality mankind has is sin – all have sinned. Christians and non-Christians can meet on the common ground that all of have sinned. Paul encourages Christians to deal with sin or avoid sin by looking to each other. Christians come together with a common purpose to avoid sin. Read more
If you missed the last post about the shipping container that is going to Haiti this fall, you can read about it here.
For those of you who have asked about how you can help with items for the shipping container, here’s a great idea: You can shop online and have your items shipped directly to Healing Hands International. Many websites offer free shipping on larger or heavier items (Amazon.com, Walmart.com, etc), so you can find a great deal and send things directly to the place where they will be loaded on the container.
When filling out shipping information make sure to include Roberta’s name so that Healing Hands will know what to do with your package when it shows up.

Last summer I experienced one of the most challenging events in my life thus far – my grandfather passed away. My grandfather and I were very close, you might even call us best friends. I have learned more from my grandfather than any other individual that I have had the honor of knowing. My grandfather taught me how to be a virtuous soul, how to discharge a weapon, and how to deal with the thought that one day I might be bald. As I have contemplated his passing one thing keeps jumping to the forefront of my mind – legacy. What do I want my story to be when I am gone? How do I want people to remember me? Paul says in 2 Timothy Chapter 4 verse 7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Read more
The following is a wish list from Roberta. The list includes items that can be purchased and added to a shipping container that will go to Haiti in September. Please consider contributing items or donating money to go toward the shipping costs. You can also help by sharing this list with your congregation. Another 40 foot container is being prepared to be sent to Haiti. The items collected will be used to support the needs of approximately 350 children in the Port au Prince area and the new school of preaching. Healing Hands International in Nashville, TN has agreed to be the collection point and shipper of the container. All items to be clearly labeled in boxes or plastic totes with an explanation of what is inside of the box. If more than one box is given, please have a inventory listing what is in each of your boxes.
When purchasing food items, if at all possible, please purchase items in cases for easier shipping.
Funds are also being raised for the shipping and customs fees for this container. The cost will be $12,000.

The Haiti Missions Committee at Estes is excited to announce some new updates to the Estes website, including this blog and a new donation page that will allow more people to be involved in contributing to the work in Haiti. Our hope is that through these new avenues those who are interested in supporting this work will be able to learn a little more about what sponsorship entails, receive regular updates on what is happening in Haiti, and be able to streamline the donation process. No longer will donors need to remember to write a check each month to sponsor children in the Santo Nutrition Center or in the Education Program. For many years, we have desired to purchase the land south of the Estes property. This parcel was part of a 96 acre tract and for various reasons this purchase was not possible. We were very fortunate that someone purchased approximately 88 acres of the east part of the tract, leaving approximately 8 acres on the front corner, which was exactly what we had always wanted.
The proposal was presented to you in a congregational meeting and your response was overwhelming. The money you have given, along with the August 31st pledges, will pay about half of the purchase. The pledges due by December 31, 2015 will pay the remaining half. Read more
