Theodore Roosevelt said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” How true that statement really is. We live among hurting people, ourselves not excluded. So often we struggle with life and its consequences, and sometimes these struggles are faith shattering. How do we cope? How do we live? Who can we turn to? Can I overcome with God’s help, or do I even need God anymore? Most of us have been there, and those of us who have not… just wait. It’s coming.
Jesus gave a command to His disciples: “Love one another as I have loved you,” John 13:34. Paul tells us how to fulfill that law: “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ,” Gal 6:2. So how will we respond?
The 6:2 Ministry, lead by Jim Jones under the oversight of the Estes elders, is an attempt to organize how we as Christians can help one another and thus fulfill what Christ commanded nearly 2000 years ago. This ministry is not just for those battling a current struggle. It’s also for those who have overcome like struggles and are willing to lend an ear, give helpful advice, or offer love and support just as Jesus did. Alex Walker adequately stated, “We want to be known as a 6:2 congregation.” It couldn’t have been said any better.
On April 6th after evening services, we will have the 6:2 Ministry Kick-off. The whole congregation is encouraged to attend to see how each member may benefit from participating in this program. Based on the recent survey, we have begun or will begin these programs: Fellowship Group, Men’s Ministry (Incite), Maintaining Marriages, Parenting Support/Setting Boundaries, Personal and Family Finance, Grief Support & Recovery, and Recovery Through Christ (RTC). Please bring finger foods for a time of fellowship and learning more about these areas of support.
